Hunter Elementary Tutoring Packages

Hunter College Elementary School (HCES) is a publicly-funded (tuition-free) school that serves a diverse population of children who have been identified as intellectually talented. The only entry point into Hunter College Elementary School (HCES) is Kindergarten. Each year, 25 girls and 25 boys are admitted to the program.

Round 1 of testing involves your child taking a modified Stanford Binet Test with a Psychologist within 3 weeks of submitting your application to Hunter.

The Stanford-Binet test is a examination meant to gauge intelligence through five factors of cognitive ability. These five factors include fluid reasoning, knowledge, quantitative reasoning, visual-spatial processing and working memory.

At the tutoring center, tutors work with the children to:

– Improve verbal ability and ease of self-expression

– Increase vocabulary and awareness of the purpose of objects in the child’s world

– Practice classifying and sorting objects into categories

– Augment mathematical reasoning abilities

– Expand cognitive skills using pictoral and figural analogies

– Amplify visual, spatial and fine motor skills with puzzles, blocks, drawings and other material

– Improve memory and concentration through games and fun exercises
